NEW YORK and NEWARK, N.J. (September 13, 2024) – In preparation for Season 2 of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL), the New York Sirens have announced that Prudential Center will serve as the team’s primary home venue for regular-season games throughout the 2024-25 campaign.

The team debuted at the venue with two regular season games during the inaugural campaign and recorded a season-high home attendance of 5,132 on April 20. Prudential Center, located in downtown Newark, NJ, is home of the NHL’s New Jersey Devils.

“We saw last season how quickly Prudential Center and our loyal fans could create an electrifying atmosphere,” said General Manager Pascal Daoust. “Our players and staff are thrilled and can’t wait to play again in this high-class venue and call this place home for the upcoming season. We know our fans will be a driving force in our pursuit of excellence.”

“Prudential Center is immensely proud to become a primary venue for the Professional Women’s Hockey League,” said Dylan Wanagiel, Vice President, Sports Properties and Special Events, Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment/Prudential Center. “After the initial success of our two games at The Rock last season, we look forward to the opportunity to support and showcase the world class talent of women’s hockey at the highest professional level.”

New York Sirens will relocate their training to the Essex County Codey Arena, the Devils former practice facility, located in West Orange, NJ as part of the South Mountain Recreation Complex.

“Establishing Codey Arena as our practice venue is a significant step in our ongoing commitment to providing the best possible environment for our team and players to grow and develop,” said Head Coach Greg Fargo. “We are very excited to become a proud and active part of the Essex County community, engaging with our neighbors, and having an impact as we make Codey Arena our new training home.”

“Essex County Codey Arena is very excited for our new partnership with the New York Sirens,” said Codey Arena General Manager Stephen Ruggiero. “This partnership brings together two organizations dedicated to the growth and development of women’s hockey. We would like to extend our gratitude to the PWHL, GM Pascal Daoust and Head Coach Greg Fargo for their support. Together, we will continue to promote and elevate women’s hockey in our community.”

“We are excited to welcome the New York Sirens to Essex County Codey Arena,” said Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. “Our facility has a long history of providing skating opportunities for people of all ages and abilities including NHL and minor league hockey teams along with the NJ Youth Devils and Daredevils. We hope having the Sirens here will inspire new generations of girls and women to play hockey, and we look forward to a longtime partnership with the team and PWHL.”

Essex Skating Club

Contact: essexskatingclub@gmail.com

The Essex Skating Club, a non-profit organization for the promotion and development of figure skating, has a long and distinguished history and currently counts close to 300 members. The club had a modest beginning over 50 years ago at the Shady Brook outdoor rink in Livingston, NJ and received USFSA sanction in January 1955. Three years later, the club moved to our current home ice at the South Mountain Arena.

Over the years, the Essex Skating Club has sponsored many skating events featuring famous skaters such as Carol Heiss, Donald Jackson, Sjoukjie Dykstra, Janet Lynn, Peggy Fleming, Scott Hamilton, Nancy Kerrigan and Elaine Zayak. It has also staged elaborate shows and ice carnivals showcasing large numbers of club members and inspired and directed by our coaches.

As a result of a complete renovation of South Mountain Arena in 2004, our club again has a wonderful home where it can offer its skating members on and off ice training with its staff of coaches, many of whom are former National and World competitors, for all skating disciplines including moves, freestyle, dance and synchro.

The club currently has seven highly acclaimed synchro teams, including the Blades an adult team. Synchronized skating, of course, is not new to the club and many of the current adult lady members fondly remember when they teamed in what was then known as Precision skating, bringing home numerous laurels from their performances. In the Fall of 2007, Essex Skating Club also introduced a Theatre on Ice / Bravo team to its members.

Skyliners Synchronized Skating Club

Synchronized skating, a fifty-year old sport that began in the United States, joins the men’s ladies, pairs, and ice dance competitions as the fourth discipline. ‘Synchro’ as the sport is known by its fans, is sanctioned by The US Figure Skating Association and the International Skating Union. Synchro is considered to be the fastest growing part of competitive figure skating with more than 500 teams and 5,000 skaters competing across the United States. The sport of Synchronized skating is attracting fans due to its speed, artistry, and the excitement of 8-20 skaters on the ice competing in a team sport. Synchronized skaters are increasingly recognized as the most versatile of competitive skater-athletes as they perform elements from singles, pairs, and ice dance. It uses the same judging system as singles, pairs, and dance and is characterized by teamwork, speed, intricate formations, and challenging step sequences. As with other disciplines, all teams perform a free skate with required well-balanced program elements. In addition, teams at the junior and senior level perform a short program consisting of required elements.

Welcome to the official site of the Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team! We are proud to represent the Skating Club of New York in NYC, the Skating Club of Fairfield County in Connecticut, and the Essex Skating Club in New Jersey. Our mission is to prepare skaters to compete at the highest level of synchronized skating locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. To do this, we offer training both on and off the ice to develop our athletes from the beginner through elite levels. We strive to continue to be one of the most competitive teams in the country and welcome skaters who are looking for this challenge.

Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team was established in 2001 by a group of parents who wanted to create a new competitive synchronized skating club in the tri-state area. Over the last nineteen seasons, Skyliners has grown to be one of the top synchronized skating clubs in the country, winning 16 National Championships, 33 Eastern Championships, and back-to-back Silver and Bronze medals at Junior Worlds in 2018 and 2019, the first worlds medals ever for Team USA Junior. 2020 also marks the third year that our Senior line has been chosen to represent Team USA at Senior Worlds. The tremendous growth and success of the team are attributed to the dedicated athletes, the talented coaches and the devoted Board members and parent volunteers who make Skyliners possible season after season.

This 19th season, Skyliners is fielding 14 competitive lines with more than 240 skaters ranging in age from 5 to 24. While the majority of the skaters reside in the tri-state area, we also have skaters from Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin. Skyliners train at various rinks throughout the tri-state region. Our Senior, Junior, Novice Blue, Novice Black, Intermediate and Juvenile qualifying lines and Central Park Skyliners developmental lines represent the Skating Club of New York; our Pre-Juvenile, Preliminary, Pre-Preliminary, Beginner and Intro to Beginner non-qualifying lines represent the Skating Club of Fairfield County; and our New Jersey Preliminary and Beginner lines represent the Essex Skating Club.

Each season, Skyliners participates in numerous competitions throughout the world. Since 2004, every one of our qualifying lines has earned a spot to the National Championships. Both our Junior and Senior lines are designated Team USA, and represent the United States at international events. In the 2018-19 season, the Junior line captured Silver medals at the Cup of Berlin and the French Cup, 1st place in the United States and 3rd in the World in Neuchatel, Switzerland. The Senior line captured Silver medals at the Cup of Berlin and 6th at the Mozart Cup in Austria, 2nd place at Nationals and 8th in the World in Helsinki, Finland.

Skyliners is often featured at special exhibitions and ice shows. In past seasons, the team performed in Holiday on the Hudson, the tree lighting at Riverbank State Park, the Ice Theatre of New York Annual Gala, Bryant Park, the Rye FSC 80th Anniversary Gala, half-time at regional hockey games, as well as local learn to skate exhibitions. Skyliners have also been invited to perform on televised productions such as the Today Show, Good Morning America, The Rachael Ray Show, even as models during Fashion Week at Wollman Rink. The team gives back to the community with its involvement in charity fundraisers throughout the region and the annual Pajama Drive.
